We are starting to see businesses engaging in more progressive and innovative practices, such as utilising multimedia, driven by the necessity to keep up with the market at large, which has and continues to rapidly embrace new technology and expect a more positive and engaging job seeking experience. Six Figures provides advertisers with the platform to upload logos, images and videos and are finding that some of our early adopters are using these technologies to give their business and jobs the competitive edge.

The USA tend to be ahead of Australia in this area as we are traditionally late adopters and it will be interesting to see the pace at which we move with these trends that John has predicted for 2009. I personally think they sound exciting and hope to see businesses running with them.

Online Recruitment Trends for 2008

There have been a number of survey results published throughout the early part of this year and all have produced some interesting statistics.  As a general consensus, it certainly goes to prove just how cost effective online recruitment is becoming and how employers and applicants are changing their perception of traditional press recruitment advertising.
Personnel Today’s sister company, Employment Review, found from their recent survey of 133 employers, that the majority of employers believe that making better use of online recruitment is the best way to save money when attracting new recruits. “The various elements of e-recruitment accounts for one in four of the employers’ top five most effective ways of improving candidate attraction.  78% were convinced that making changes to the use of general job boards was the most effective way of achieving savings when attracting new candidates.”
CareerXroads released its 7th Annual Sources of Hire Study, completed by 49 firms with combined employee number of 1,010,000.  It found that hires attributed to job boards (including company career sites) represents 25% of external hires verses less than 5% of hires made from traditional print.
As the competition for talent becomes ever more aggressive, graduates coming into the market place are embracing this relatively new method of recruitment with force.  Reed Employment has announced their findings of some new research with almost 400 graduates.  It claims that 89% of graduates will only search for positions online against just 3% checking traditional print newspaper job sections.
What does this mean for 2008 trends and the continuing search for talent?  With the new internet “savvy” generation emerging, will 2008 see the online recruitment methods become even fiercer and more sophisticated in such a small time frame?  There is an increasing number of online recruitment businesses, job boards and alternative web sites tailoring their services to attract today’s talent. Will the hiring companies who ensure they continue developing their online recruitment strategy feel the most benefit or can those new to the market catch up and how fast will they need to move?
